USPS MAIL REQUIREMENTS

  • POSTCARD

With First-Class Mail postcards, you pay a low price and get all of the benefits, like forwarding and return that come with stamped First-Class Mail.

You may think that your mailpiece is a "postcard," because it is a single sheet of paper. But to qualify for mailing at the First-Class Mail postcard price, it must be:

    • Rectangular
    • At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick
    • No more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long x 0.016 inches thick

  • LETTER

You probably have a picture in your mind of what a "letter" is. Most likely you're using a standard No. 10 envelope for your letter. However, you can create a mailpiece with its own special envelope, design a piece that will be folded to letter-size, or even just mail out a postcard. To be eligible for mailing at the price for letters, a piece must be:

    • Rectangular
    • At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick.
    • No more than 6-1/8 inches high x 11-1/2 inches long x 1/4 inch thick.
  • FLATS

The Postal Service uses the word "flats" to refer to large envelopes, newsletters, and magazines. The terms "large envelopes" and "flats" are used interchangeably. These mail pieces are typically flexible and uniformly thick, ideal for sending documents, brochures, and other printed materials. Whatever you call them, flats must meet specific size requirements:

    • Have at least one dimension greater than 6-1/8 inches high, 11-½ inches long, or ¼ inch thick
    • Be no larger than 12 inches high, 15 inches long, or ¾ inch thick

+ SO MUCH MORE!
